The stereotype of “worthless POS cars” is very, very worn out and misses the entire point of the car. That’s the rub. It will cause a flame war EVERY TIME.

In 2002 you could get an LS1 Z28 for $22,495. That’s a 305 hp car with a 6 speed manual. 1/4 in about 13.5-13.65, top speed limited around 155 or so but will do 160+.

It’s about cheap speed, and there were certainly corners cut to keep the price down. The point is cheap speed . Not “the interior is meh, and the plastic stuff is creaky, and the rear seats are tiny”.

No, I do get your point, and I realize that my whining is exactly what you are talking about. But what do you expect to happen when you slam something that so many people enjoy?

If I were to post something on the FP about how the BRZ/FR-S is a POS because it’s woefully underpowered, what do you think would happen? Same type of deal. I’d hear about balance, and handling, and how I am missing the point of their existence.

Sure... except he’s writing “Front page articles”. Troll away, but expect to be called out as a troll. He did good at getting clicks though, and the result is that he lost a lot of credibility. I’m not sure what the guys job description is, but generally “journalism” is more than trolling. (okay, it’s gawker, I guess I should expect it, but Jalopnik is usually better than that.)

And I have no problem if he wants to call it a bad car. But calling it a bad car because “it looks like a bunch of melted plastic” when it’s actually a pretty solid performer and really doesn’t look that horrible isn’t going to get you very far when there are worse things out there to troll on about...

Yikes to that Corvette. Okay, great job explaining the situation. I don’t really like the car either, but at the same time, who cares? There have been people who flat out called my car a piece of crap, but I don’t remember who they were because I don’t really care. Sure, I’ve gotten all kinds of bent out of shape when it comes to car brands, but I haven’t lost sleep from it.

The only opinion he expressed is that he thinks the car is ugly. And that’s fine. It’s okay to have people in the community who don’t like the things we do like. I loved my 4th gen Firebird to the day I had to tearfully watch it be hauled off to the junkyard, but even given that, I know the car had faults and that it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It never will be.

You can’t really back up an opinion based on your own observations and interpretations; they are not objective, and that’s okay. A person cannot be held to account for a subjective opinion they hold, because there’s nothing to account for. This isn’t the first time a blogger has said something we don’t like, and it won’t be the last.
